Is Allspice available for free?
Yes, Allspice offers a free tier with essential features. With the free version, you can find, import, and save recipes, post your own recipes, and create shopping lists. However, premium features, like pantry tracking and Pico access, are available with a subscription. Even on the free tier, your pantry ingredients will be tracked in the background so that if you upgrade to premium, you'll instantly have a fully stocked pantry ready to go.
How do I get started with Allspice?
Getting started is simple! You can follow the in-app tutorials or consult our help guide for more detailed instructions. You can begin by adding items to your pantry, entering some of your favorite recipes, or exploring recipes and adding them to your shopping list. Allspice is designed to be intuitive, so feel free to dive in wherever you feel most comfortable.
What features are included in a premium subscription?
A premium subscription unlocks several advanced features, including detailed pantry tracking and the ability to search for recipes based on your pantry ingredients, expiring ingredients, or proteins. Access to our custom kitchen assistant, SpiceAI, is also limited to premium users. Premium is designed to elevate your kitchen experience by making it easier to manage your ingredients and plan meals efficiently.
How can I change my subscription plan?
To change your subscription plan, go to the 'Settings' page in the app. If you're not yet subscribed, select "Get Premium" to upgrade. If you're already a subscriber, you can click "Change Plan" to switch between available options. Please note that subscription billing is handled through your app store (App Store or Google Play), so any changes to your plan will follow the billing cycle of your platform.
What do I do if I encounter a technical issue?

How can I reset my password?
If you're already logged in, go to the in-app settings and select “Change Password.” If you can’t log in, click the “Forgot my password” option on the sign-in page, and follow the steps to reset your password.
Is an internet connection required to use Allspice?
Yes, Allspice currently requires an internet connection for all its features. Adding offline grocery list access is a roadmap item.
What platforms is Allspice available on?
Currently, Allspice is available on iOS. A web version is in progress, and an Android app is planned for the future.
How can I provide feedback or request features?

How does pantry tracking work?
You can add items to your pantry by scanning barcodes, finishing a shopping session, or manually entering them. Allspice keeps track of the ingredients you’ve used and suggests them for your shopping list and recipe recommendations. This ensures you're always aware of what's in your pantry and helps you plan meals efficiently.
Can I track expiration dates for my pantry items?

What are pantry staples?
Pantry staples are basic items, like salt, water, and pepper, that we don’t track the quantity of. For ingredient searches, we’ll always assume you have these staples, so you’ll never be prompted to add them to a shopping list or worry about them when making a recipe.
What should I do if I can’t find an ingredient on the app?
If an ingredient isn’t listed in the search results, click “Can’t find what you’re looking for?”. You’ll be prompted to add the item manually. You can start using it in recipes, shopping lists, or your pantry right away. We’ll review the item within a few days, and if it’s valid, it will be added to our database with updated nutrition and expiration info.
Will my pantry information be shared with others?
No, your pantry information will not be shared with others. However, we reserve the right to share aggregated, non-personally identifiable information about our users. Can I import my own recipes into Allspice?
Absolutely! Just click the center button on the bottom navigation bar to start importing your recipes. You can import from websites, scan a cookbook, paste in text, or use our custom recipe import system to easily add your personal recipes to Allspice.
How does Allspice recommend recipes?
Allspice recommends recipes based on the ingredients in your pantry, what you’ve viewed or made before, your available time, and your dietary preferences. We also offer a range of custom filters, so you can fine-tune your search to find the perfect recipe for any occasion.
Why can’t I view recipe instructions in the app?
We built Allspice to support recipe creators, not replace them. If creators choose, they can prevent certain information like instructions or images from being shown in Allspice. We’re building an ecosystem where creators earn from their work, users get better tools, and everybody wins. For these creators, you’ll be asked to open the recipe on the original site or post. You’ll still enjoy all the organization and planning features in Allspice, but the creator gets traffic, credit, and support.
Can I search for recipes that other users have added?
Because we don’t index or republish recipes we don’t own. Most recipe apps build massive libraries by copying content from across the internet into their own database - without permission. Allspice doesn’t do that. Instead, your imported recipes belong to you and your collection. We don’t resurface or promote other people’s content unless we’re explicitly allowed to, and we never expose private or scraped recipes to other users.
What recipes can I search or add to meal plans?
We always default to searching your own recipes (the ones you’ve saved or added) when planning meals or deciding what to cook. Beyond your personal collection, we’re actively rolling out a curated recipe discovery experience focused on:
• Verified partner websites
• Influencer recipes
• High-quality, creator-approved content

These partner recipes will be:
• Fully searchable
• Addable to your pantry and shopping list
• Eligible for meal planning and collections
• Often available with in-app instructions

Over time, the search experience will continue to expand - but always with permission and partnership first.
How do I create a grocery list?
Go to the Pantry/Shopping page and select the “Shopping” tab. Click the button at the top to switch lists, then select the option to create a new list. You can name your list and add items right away, or even import from an existing list.
Can I share my shopping lists with others?
Yes! Tap the options button in the top-right corner of any shopping list, then choose the "Share" option. Once the person accepts your invitation, you can both edit the list and even shop together in a shared shopping session.
How can I start or join a family pantry?
On the Pantry/Shopping page, go to the “Pantry” tab, and click the top button to switch pantries. You can either create a new family pantry by adding items and naming it, or join an existing one by scanning the QR code from another user’s device.
Can I add custom notes to my ingredients?
Yes, you can add custom notes to items on your shopping lists, and these notes will be visible during shopping sessions. However, notes cannot be added to pantry items.
Can I copy or duplicate a grocery list?
Yes - you can create as many shopping lists as you want for different stores, trips, or plans. When you go to create a new list, there’s an option to auto-import from an existing list.
Can I combine multiple recipes into a grocery list?
Yes - you can build a single list from many recipes at once. We automatically combine items, so you won’t see any duplicates. You can manually add additional items as well. The ability to remove particular recipes from a grocery list is a roadmap item.
Can I get groceries delivered?
Yes! You can send your shopping list directly to delivery services like Instacart, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, and others depending on your location. Availability may vary by region, and we’re actively adding new grocery partners all the time to give you more options.
What if I would like to shop in-store?
Allspice works great for in-store shopping too. When you tap “Start Shopping,” your list transforms into a live, checkable shopping mode designed for the store. As you shop, you can check items off in real time and shop simultaneously with a family member on the same list. When you’re finished, just tap “Finish Shopping” and everything you bought is automatically added to your pantry. You can also print your list if you prefer a paper checklist.
What’s included in the free version?
The free version of Allspice lets you:
• Import and save recipes

What comes with a premium subscription?
Premium unlocks the full Allspice experience, including:

• Early access to new features as they roll out
Is there a family or household plan?
Not yet - but it’s on our roadmap. We’re actively working on shared household plans with expanded collaboration and permissions.
Can I subscribe on iOS and use my account on the web?
Yes. Your subscription is tied to your Allspice account, not the device - so if you subscribe on iOS, you’ll have access on the web (and vice versa).
Can I subscribe on iOS and use my account on the web?
If you subscribed on iPhone:
• Open Settings on your iPhone
• Tap your Apple ID
• Go to Subscriptions
• Select Allspice and cancel

If you subscribed on the web:
• Go to Settings in your Allspice account
• Scroll to your subscription section
• Click Change Plan and cancel
What happens when I cancel my subscription?
You’ll continue to have access until the end of your billing cycle. After that, your account returns to the free version.
Why do refunds work differently on iOS?
Apple controls billing and refunds for iOS subscriptions. Allspice is not allowed to issue refunds for App Store purchases. If you subscribed through Apple, you must request refunds directly through Apple Support. If you subscribed on the web, refunds are handled by our team.
What if I delete my account?
If you delete your account, you may not have access to your subscription if you choose to create a new account in the future. If you subscribed through Apple, make sure to cancel through your iPhone settings before deleting your account.
Do you offer a free trial?
Yes - most subscriptions include a 7-day free trial. This will be clearly marked along with the price. Some promotional or discounted plans may not include a trial.
Can I trial premium more than once?
No - trials are only available once per account.
Is my payment information stored by Allspice?
No - iOS subscriptions are securely handled by Apple, while web subscriptions are securely handled by Stripe. Allspice never stores your payment details.
